Sleep Apnea
Dr. Walker notes that 80% of people with sleep apnea are undiagnosed.
- What happens: Your airway partially or fully collapses while sleeping. Your brain registers a toxic buildup of carbon dioxide (essentially asphyxiation) and jolts you awake to gasp for air. This can happen up to 80 times an hour, completely destroying your sleep quality without you remembering it.
- The consequences: Untreated sleep apnea causes severe weight gain, high blood pressure, and spikes in blood sugar.
